Almost 300 participants representing 20 nations at the starting line

GARGNANO (Brescia) – A nail-biting finish for the almost 300 boats participating in the 58th Centomiglia regatta and the 3rd edition of the MultiCento - Giorgio Zuccoli Trophy on Lake Garda.

In the monohull class the victory went to "Clandesteam" manned by the local skipper Daniele Larcher, following penalisation by the international jury of the German craft "Wild Lady" which had crossed the finishing line first. The penalty (a sort of infinitesimal offside at the start) also cost the craft from Lake Constance the second place, awarded to the Hungarian crew of "Principessa", which had aboard the former world champion of the Olympic Star class, Roberto Benamati from the Veneto region. In the cabin cruiser class Paolo Masserdotti, another skipper from Lake Garda, overwhelmed the competition in the Beppe Croce trophy with "Mediatel". The Asso 99 fleet saw the success of Beppe Cavalli from Brescia, with Marco Schirato heading the Protagonist class and Gio Pizzati from Desenzano winning the Dolphin 81 class.

The third edition of the Multicento event, with the new trophy dedicated to the late lamented Gorgio Zuccoli, went to the "Tommy Hilfiger" catamaran manned by the American Randy Smyth, who overwhelmed the competition. In the other multihull classes Matteo Marega from Trentino was first in the 30 foot class, whereas the German Bernard Doerfler was the fastest in the 20 foot class, ahead of Stimpfl-Taddei, the helmsman of the Trentino Sailing Club in Torbole. Sailing therapy projects also competed in the unclassified CentoPeople event. The regatta was characterised by very light winds. The last boat, the small cruiser "Giò" from Noventa, crossed the finish line after almost 24 hours of navigation.
