Another day of light winds on Lake Garda has slowed progress in the IFDS Blind Match Racing World Championships. The B2 classified sailors, competing for an IFDS International Championship, have completed their round robin and two matches today resolved the tie-break. Race officials plan to sail semi-finals tomorrow, ‘Ora’ permitting. Pekka Rantanen & Egidio Carantini (FIN) won their two matches this afternoon, securing third place on the table. The tie between Jordi Taule & Jose Avalos (ESP) and Andrea Pesaresi & Gianluca Battisti (ITA) was resolved in favour of the Italian crew as a result of their match with the Spanish team in heat 7. Lucy Hodges & Toby Davey (GBR) are top of the table after three days of racing and a perfect score, with the home-town favourites Alessandro Malapiero & Elisabetta Bardella (ITA) in second with a single defeat to the GBR team.
In the World Championship for B1 classified sailors, 18 of the 21 matches have been sailed in the round robin. 6 heats were sailed today in a light breeze of about 4 knots. The final match this afternoon, held just before the wind died completely, was between the two teams with a 100% record. While there had been some strong tactical duels pre-start in earlier heats, Kylie Forth & Erin Mc Glew (AUS) managed to avoid Luigi Bertanza & Sylvia Parente (ITA) but gave them a clean break at the start. The Italian pair capitalized on the advantage and sailed clear and fast to easily win the match. That result leaves them clear of Forth/McGlew, with the other Italian team of Anna Gamba & Enrico Sosio in third. Racing continues at Circolo Vela Gargnano until Saturday June 26 with presentations scheduled on Sunday morning.
