THE HISTORY OF THE CIRCOLO VELA GARGNANO - LAKE GARDA

Since 1951 till today the Circolo vela Gargnano has been organizing a lot of international championships. Worthy of note are the F.D. World Championship (1985), Mini Ton Cup (1986), the Youth World Isaf Championship (1993), the 5th World Blind Sailing International Championship (2002), the European Finn Championship (1969), The European Asso 99 Championship (1988 – 1989 – 2002), the Italian Championship of the Olympic classes, the Italian Championship (1980) of the Finn, F.D., and Soling classes, the European Championship Melges 24 (1995),  the Italian Blind Sailing of Homerus Project (1998), three editions of the National lottery of Lake Garda.

For 16 years the Circolo Vela Gargnano has been organizing the “Cento Cup” which represents since 1998 one of the stage of the Isaf World’s Match Races Circuit grade 1.

For 8 years, the Sailing Club has been promoting the meeting “Navigando”, which involves the associations of physically disabled skippers.

The Sailingclub counts among its members Carlo Rolandi, Past President of the F.I.V (Italian Sailing Federation) and European Champion of the Star class , who took part in the Olympic games in 1960 (crew Straulino – Rolandi) and got a 4th place in the final results, Andrea Damiani, leader of the Italian team in the victorious Admiral’s Cup in 1995, the deceased Angelo Marino, Champion of the Star and Soling classes, Andreino Menoni, Italian tecnicien during six Olympic games, and finally the Earl Conte Bettoni, national councillor of the Saling Federation and organiser of the Olympic games in 1960.
